Roasted November 25: Ready to drink and reduced.
Ratnagiri Estate (which translates to Pearl Mountain) is located in the Baba Budan Mountain Range, Karnataka, South West India (Western Ghats) and has built a global reputation for producing some of India’s finest washed Arabica. The estate which is located in the Baba Budan Mountain Range was established in 1923 and has remained in the same family for 100 years. This is where it is said the first coffee was planted in India by Bababuda – a pilgrim from Yemen. Shivappaiya Patre first purchased the estate in 1923 and named it the Ratnagiri Estate, inspired by the beautiful mountains.
The coffee is intercropped with black pepper and cardamon groves and other native plants and trees provide shade for the coffee and help to conserve the natural environment. Every care is taken in processing and drying to produce a fine and sought after cup. To ensure the best chances of a terrific cup, Ashok Patri the owner did his homework on the processing- including flying to Switzerland to buy the right yeast!
